‘These Fans Were Like Family’: Travis Scott Opens Up About Astroworld Tragedy, Says He Still Thinks About It

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Travis Scott has opened up about the 2021 Astroworld music festival tragedy in which 10 fans lost their lives in a crowd stampede.

The rapper revealed how the incident affected him and his music in a candid interview with GQ.

How Astroworld Changed Travis Scott’s Music

The 32-year-old rapper told GQ that he was “devastated” by what happened at the Astroworld festival which took place on November 5, 2021 in Houston, Texas.

He said he took a long break from his music career after the tragedy, which also resulted in thousands of injuries and numerous lawsuits.

“That moment for the families, for the city, you know, it was devastating. And when it came to making, or even finishing the album… I got back into it probably, I don’t know, months and months and months later,” he said.

He added: “And the idea of ​​getting back into music, working on music and even getting into it, was therapeutic to be able to channel some of the energy into the production and the sounds and finish them .”

He said one of the songs, “My Eyes”, is about “the things I deal with on a daily basis and how it might be misunderstood, and the struggles of life and all aspects of life .

“The constant weight that you carry. That you carry, you know. And just a vision through my eyes,” he said.

Scott said: “I replay them every night, and right by my side.”

“It came out when I was writing,” he said, adding “Like I said, it was a real moment.”

“This song is emotional for me. It’s one of my favorite songs on the album. And this verse means a lot to me,” he continued.

Travis Scott admitted he “always” thinks about the Astroworld tragedy, the victims and their families.

He said he felt a deep connection with his fans, whom he considered family. “These fans were like my family. You know, I love my fans the most,” he said.
