LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino spoke candidly about his battle with addiction and how his mother and wife helped him on the road to recovery.

The reality star shared the heartbreaking details of her heroin addiction, saying: “I was in a really bad place.”

Mike Sorrentino reveals how he started using heroin

Speaking to ABC’s Stephanie Ramos, the 41-year-old shared the details of how he started using heroin.

“I was broke. I was unemployed. I was months behind on my rent and I was depressed. I was just trying to get by on some prescription painkillers,” Sorrentino said in the exclusive People clip. .

“That’s what I was looking to do. He said, ‘Don’t worry Mike, I got you. Come get me,'” he said.

However, the 41-year-old returned home with heroin instead of his usual painkillers and has now “sworn he would never use” heroin.

“I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll just try.’ So I locked my door and said [wife] Lauren that I was going to sleep for the night and wanted to be alone. So I just took a little wrench and tried it,” he said.

“So I got another wrench and right then my phone rings. It was my mom. And my mom was like, ‘Are you okay?’ She had a feeling. And I said, ‘I’m fine, mom, why?’ She goes, ‘I feel like something’s wrong,'” he added.

Mike Sorrentino remembers ‘coming to God moment’ after his mother’s call

Sorrentino further spoke about the “coming to God moment” in his life after his mother’s call in the midst of her struggle with addiction.

“I took it as a message from the Almighty and put it down. And as I was hanging up, there was a knock on the door – a second angel,” the New Jersey native recalled.

“My wife was knocking on the door. So it’s a very emotional moment for me. They saved me,” he added.

Sorrentino, who gained popularity as a self-described “guido” on the Jersey Shore and whose lifestyle “virtually destroyed” him, struggled with his addiction to prescription painkillers.

Sorrentino is now dedicated to impacting individuals in the sober community after four years of sobriety.

The “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation” star and his wife teamed up with Banyan Treatment Centers in 2019 “to raise awareness about substance abuse and the disease of addiction.”

“We also want to shine a light on the fact that there are positive stories — we are recovering,” he told People at the time.

“More importantly, the return is truly greater than the setback,” Sorrentino added.
