Johnny Depp fans celebrate Amber Heard’s complete absence from new Aquaman 2 trailer

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Amid the growing controversies surrounding Amber Heard, the new trailer for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” made a surprising omission: Amber Heard’s character, Mera, is noticeably absent.

This follows speculation that her role in the film was significantly reduced due to the fallout from her legal battles and the negative attention they received, according to the Daily Mail.

Director James Wan Says Aquaman Sequel Was Never Meant To Focus On Amber Heard’s Character

Heard’s fleeting appearance as Mera in the initial trailer released in September hinted at a limited role. However, in the latest teaser for the film, scheduled for December 20, 2023, his character is nowhere to be seen.

The absence of Heard’s character is glaring in the new trailer, which primarily focuses on Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, now juggling fatherhood with his responsibilities as king of Atlantis. Notably, Nicole Kidman, reprising her role as Atlanna, appears to have a larger role in the film’s action sequences.

Mera, played by Heard, is the daughter of King Nereus, possessing telepathic abilities to manipulate water and communicate with the Atlanteans. She is Aquaman’s wife in the storyline.

Director James Wan addressed ongoing speculation about Heard’s reduced presence in the sequel, saying the focus was never intended to be on her character, Mera.

Amber Heard’s turbulent “Aquaman” saga

Heard’s involvement with the sequel has been tumultuous, marked by legal battles, alleged conflicts on set and claims of a diminished role.

Reports suggest that therapy notes brought to light in December 2021, involving Heard’s discussions about the filming environment and her interactions with Wan, had painted a picture of discord and alleged mistreatment, Variety reported.

The explosive therapy documents document disturbing incidents on set, including claims that Momoa intentionally dressed like Johnny Depp, Heard’s ex-husband, and advocated for his dismissal from the film.

Momoa’s representatives declined to comment on the allegations, while a DC Studios spokesperson maintained that Momoa demonstrated professionalism throughout the filming process.

As accusations and counterclaims persist, reports have emerged that Heard and Momoa’s on-screen chemistry was allegedly lacking, prompting discussion of her removal from the film. However, Elon Musk, Heard’s former partner, stepped in to secure her role in the sequel after discussions over her possible firing.
