Idaho murders: Internet remembers murdered students as university holds vigil one year after massacre

MOSCOW, IDAHO: A vigil was held Monday, Nov. 13, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the horrific murders of four University of Idaho students that shook the nation.

On Thursday, November 9, the University of Idaho announced the location of the vigil and said it would take place on November 13 at 6 p.m. on the UI Administration lawn, according to KMTV.

November 13 marks the one-year anniversary of the horrific murders that took the lives of four UI students: Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves. The four students were found dead in a home on King Road in Moscow, Idaho.

Bryan Kohberger, a doctoral student at Washington State University, was charged with the grisly murders after his DNA was found in the sheath of the knife used in the crime.

The vigil will be led by representatives of three Greek sections

Representatives from three of the Greek sections with which the victims were associated will speak at the vigil. The three Greek chapters are Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Chi and Alpha Phi.

Alongside them, student body president Tanner McClain is also expected to speak at the vigil.

According to the UI press release, Idahoans associated with UI are encouraged to keep their porch lights on from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. PST in solidarity with grieving students.

McClain said in the press release, “It’s important that students lead this effort toward healing,” before adding, “We want to make sure we continue to tell their stories, honor their legacy and provide a place where every student can heal. . Together we move forward,” according to Idaho Country Free Press.

Not only university students, but also social media users mourned the death of the four University of Idaho students. On X (formerly Twitter), people posted heartfelt tributes to Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen.

One of the social media users said: “It’s crazy to me that a year ago tonight these kids were taking pictures and going to a football game, to parties, to clubs.. . without realizing the horror that awaited them. And a year later… I’m not sure they have the right person! Will we ever know? #BryanKohberger #Idaho4 #TrueCrime.”

Several Internet users mourned their deaths under Goncalves’ last Instagram post. One said: “It breaks my heart to see the date of this post, who would have imagined it. I would do anything to go back and change events, I would do anything .”

Someone else said: “1 year ago today and I’m still waiting for justice!…💔💔.”

“1 year without all your beautiful souls, your loved and missed ones.💗,” added another.
